Fred Salome

Fred Salome holds a B.Sc. with Honours in Organic Chemistry from Sydney
University, and has 30 years experience in the corrosion industry. He is an
ACA Corrosion Technologist and a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector.
Fred is a founding
director of CTI Consultants Pty Ltd,
and has prior experience as
a chemist working with heavy duty coatings with a number of major paint
manufacturers. Fred now consults to the protective coatings industry,
acting as specifier, inspector and in failure diagnosis. He is also actively
involved in the assessment and protection of concrete structures, in corrosion
issues in general and, through his work in lead paint management, in
Occupational Health and Safety.
Fred
has been actively involved in lead paint management since 1991 and has published
a number of articles on the subject. He has completed training as a Competent
Person/Supervisor for de-leading work under a US OSHA and US EPA accredited
training program run by the SSPC. Since 1994 Fred has been running training
courses on lead paint management, and he is a member of Standards Australia
Committee MT/14/2, and of Subcommittee CH/3/11, “Lead paint management”.
Fred
has been a regular speaker at ACA conferences and seminars since 1986, has been
presenting courses in lead paint management since 1996 and is a approved by ACA
and NCAE International as a lecturer for the NACE Coating Inspection Program
courses. He has been secretary and president of the ACA Protective Coatings
Group as well as the NSW Branch of the ACA, is an ACA Councillor for NSW and is
a Director of BCCA-Australia Ltd, whom he represents on a number of Standards
committees.
Carol
Bodle
Director - Head Office
Carol Bodle holds an Honours degree in Medical Science, a Masters
Degree in Applied Science (Occupational Health and Safety), and a Graduate
Diploma of Occupational Hygiene from Deakin University. Her Masters thesis
topic was “Exposure Monitoring in the Abrasive Blast Cleaning and Protective
Coating Industry: 2 Case Studies”.
Carol is an Occupational Hygienist
and is involved in carrying out monitoring, performing risk assessments and
providing safety training for workers exposed to hazardous substances. She
is also actively involved in carrying out assessments for lead hazards in
both residential and industrial settings.
Dr David Stitt
Senior Consultant - Head Office
David Stitt is a qualified industrial chemist and has a
strong grounding in corrosion science, coatings technology and materials
science. For twenty years, he was involved in extensive ceramics, composites and
building materials research at the ACI Technical Centre and in glass technology
with ACI Glass Packaging.
Before joining CTI, David was employed as a
development scientist at James Hardie, working with cement-based products and
surface coatings. David has been a NATA Assessor for mechanical and chemical
testing laboratories.
Robert Sutcliffe
Coating Inspector - Head Office
Robert Sutcliffe
is an experienced field technician and inspector who joined CTI in 1991. He
has prior experience as a laboratory technician in the paint industry, and
as a supervisor for a coatings applicator. He also has develop a high level
of skill in Auto-Cad and other related software.
Robert has been involved in
the majority of CTI's assessments of concrete and steel structures, acting as
site manager with responsibility for co-ordinating all on-site activities, the
operation of field equipment and completing all sampling and test plans. He has
tickets for confined space entry, operation of EWP's and for operating fork-lift
trucks, as well as a NSW Workcover Construction Industry Green Card.
In 2002, Robert was
recognised by NACE-International as a Certified Coating Inspector, which has
allowed him to combine his practical knowledge of coatings and application with
the formal requirements of QA and third party inspection. Robert is also
qualified in lead paint management.
Bill McEwan

Bill McEwan
is a qualified Chemist and Metallurgist and has had 40 years experience in
corrosion engineering, failure analysis of metals, welding metallurgy, NDT and
protective coatings. He began his career in Melbourne in the Corrosion and Paint
Section of the MMBW Research Laboratory before joining the Engineering and
Scientific Services Department of the Hydro Electric Commission of Tasmania in
1969. Bill held various positions in the Engineering and Scientific services
Department before becoming Scientist in Charge of the whole department in 1990.
When the Department was closed in 1995 Bill joined CTI Consultants Pty Ltd.
Bill is an honorary Life Member of the ACA
and has been a member of several AS/NZS committees on protective coatings as
well as a NATA Assessor of paint laboratories. He has worked overseas on several
projects and has presented many technical papers on corrosion, protective
coatings and welding.
Don Bartlett
Manager - Victorian Office
Don Bartlett is
a qualified chemical engineer, chemist and corrosion technologist with over
40 years in the power, water supply and construction industries. His
expertise centres on the appraisal, selection and investigation of a diverse
range of building materials, notably in the fields of paint, plastics
and elastomers technology and corrosion mitigation.
Don chairs Standards Australia Committee CH/3
"Paints" and its sub-committee CH/3/8 "Painting of Buildings". He is also a
member of CH/3/11 "Lead Paint Management" and MT/14/2. He is former Chairman and
a current member of NATA's Surface Coatings Technical Group and Australia's
contributing editor to the US Journal of Protective Coatings and Linings. He was
formerly Executive Officer and Technical Chairman of the Commonwealth
Government's Australian Paint Approval Scheme. He has worked, published and
lectured widely, notably in China.
